SilverFin by Charlie Higson

It's British, that's one reason to like it. In fact, that should be like, a whole ten reasons to like it in my opinion. It's also James Bond, but as a kid. I'm not really sure how old he is, around 13. The book teaches you facts you have no reason to know, unless you play Trivial Pursuit and I did AND I WAS SO EXCITED THAT I ACTUALLY KNEW A SPORTS QUESTION!!!!!!!!!! : D
' "A dry bob is a boy who plays cricket, and a wet bob is one who chooses rowing."
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
"And what do you call a boy who doesn't do either?"
"A slack bob" '
BOOM! Right there. I'm awesome.

Anyway, as far as I can tell, the evil person (such great vocabulary right?) is an American ('Murca) that is rich and is plotting something to do with flesh eating eels. Oh, and he makes and sells weapons. Lovely.

She sighed. "Just because I'm Native American doesn't mean I can track furniture through the wilderness." She deepened her voice:"'Yes, kemosabe. A three-legged table passed this way an hour ago.' Heck, I don't know."

I wondered if what I really wanted for Christmas was to find someone who'd be the piece of paper to my stapler. Or,wait, why couldn't I be the piece of paper? Maybe it was a stapler I was after. Or the poor mouse pad, who was clearly in love with the stapler but couldn't get him to give her a second look.  All I'd manage to date so far was a series of pencil sharpeners, with the exception of Sofia, who was more like a pleasant eraser.

...So big mistake, Grandma. You know what other mistake you made was? Killing me.

Time is a river. The river bends and loops and meanders, but it always, only flows one way- away from the past toward the future. And all of us are carried though our lives on the current of the river. We live and love- and age- immersed in the all-encompassing waters of the river of time. The river is now. This moment. The breath between us. The space between your heartbeats. The moment before you blink. The instant a thought flashes through your mind. It is everything that is around us. Life. Energy. Flowing, endlessly flowing, carrying you from then... to now...to tomorrow. Listen: you can hear the music of it. Of the passage of time.

Inside, I made myself a peanut butter sandwich, plunked myself onto the couch, and dreamed about the girl I attacked with an ax.
